2010 Summer Camp Volunteers
o-en.net

Because O-en camp has become much well-known in the community, we would like to more focus on our better services and quality as this to be our 6th year.  O-en camp cannot be done without volunteers` commitment.  It is also very important how those volunteers work in order to create this camp in meaningful and safe environment.  We decided to make some changes in volunteers system so that we all can work together to provide the service that the community can trust.

There will be 3 different types of counselors

At least 12 years old and rising 7th or 8th grade in Japanese school system

(was born between 1996/4/2 and 1998/4/1日)
Camp fee:50% of Camper package price ($120)
    - Regardless of current age, if you are rising 9th grade or older and this is the
      first time participating O-en camp

‐ Your O-en experience is 3 years or less (including your camper years)
‐ When O-en staff and yourself believe that you have acquired enough training
and experience.  After reviewing your overall performance and your
self-evaluation, we will issue a CIT certificate.

Camp Fee:1/3 of Camper package price ($80)
‐ Total of your O-en experience is 4 years or more AND you have the O-en CIT
       certificate

(When O-en staff see that you are reliable and responsible and have enough experience)

If you will be Jr. Counselor or if this is your first time to participate O-en camp, you are required to attend the sleepover training session (June 12th Sat. - 13th Sun.).  Even if this is not your first time, all CIT are strongly recommended to attend the sleepover training as well.  We will consider your performance during this training session when we review your evaluation to issue the CIT certificate  If you already have your CIT certificate, you do not need to attend the sleepover training but more than welcomed.

Note: IF for any reasons you cannot attend the sleepover training, you are asked to submit an essay and have an interview.

CIT certificate will be issued based on the evaluation of the following skills;

①Communication skills (with other staff and counselors, and campers` parents)

②Writing skills (the last day report)

③Leadership and responsibility

④Cooperation

⑤Relationship with children

⑥Appropriate manner and language use

⑦Self-awareness and commitment (including the use of Japanese)

                                                                          along with your own self-evaluation.

Jr. Counselors and CIT will receive the feedback and evaluation form after camp.  Your SSL  and community service hours that can be approved may be less than your actual attending hours depending on your performance and evaluation.

Good News!:  We are NOT going to have the daily written report. Instead we are going to report parents in person everyday at dismissal.  You only need to write ONE report on the very last day.
